THUNDER BAY – National Youth Week and Youth Arts Week will have different feel to them in 2020.
But they will still forge ahead.
The city’s recreational and culture division said they’ll shift planned activities online during the annual seven-day event, which kicks off on Friday.
Along with a number of community partners, a number of free activities for youth between 12 and 24 have been planned.
“The safety of our community is of utmost importance, and virtual programming allows for people to stay engaged while practicing physical distancing,” said Amanda Prien, program supervisor of children, youth and strategic initiatives.
“We are excited to offer a great lineup to showcase talent in our community, focusing on well-being and encouraging youth to get involved while staying safe.”
Among the activities available are a Zumba class, virtual concerts, beading and cupcake tutorials. A self-portrait challenge is also on the agenda, with participants encouraged to photograph their creative self portrait for a chance to win prizes.
Sculpting, drawing, cardboard, music, photography and the use of any household materials are welcome.
Photos may be submitted to [email protected], with entries posted to the Culture and Events Facebook and Instragram accounts.
Winners will be announced on Feb. 7.
