THUNDER BAY — A novice driver from Thunder Bay faces significant penalties after radar caught a vehicle speeding on Highway 11/17.

The incident occurred Friday near the intersection with Highway 527.

OPP said the vehicle was travelling at 158 km/h, or nearly 70 km/h over the legal limit.

The 18-year-old was charged with stunt driving, which results in an automatic 30-day licence suspension and impoundment of the vehicle at the owner's expense for 14 days.

A conviction for the individual, who had a G2 licence, would carry a fine of at least $2,000, six demerit points and a longer licence suspension.
