Zaitzeff to stand trial this spring

A trial date for Thunder Bay lawyer accused of sexual assault has been set for April 26.

THUNDER BAY - Alexander Zaitzeff will head to trial to answer to several criminal charges later this spring. 

A pre-trial was held on Wednesday in a Thunder Bay courtroom where Michael Hargadon, appearing as agent on behalf of Zaitzeff’s attorney, Scott Hutchinson, requested the date of Apr. 26 for trial. 

Zaitzeff was first charged on Nov. 21, 2016 with various sexual offences, including sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching under 16, assault, and mischief under $5,000.

Last November, Zaitzeff elected to be tried by judge and jury on four counts of sexual assault. A preliminary hearing for the trial be held on Feb. 21 and 22. Zaitzeff will answer to the remaining charges during the trial on Apr. 26.
