All-star reliever Zach Thiac will be back in Thunder Bay this summer.
The Kenmar, La. native posted a 2-1 record with a 2.85 earned run average in 2013 for the Thunder Bay Border Cats, picking up the win in the Northwoods League’s mid-summer classic.
A sophomore at Nicholls State University in his home state, Thiac has been outstanding at the college level this season, going 1-2 with a 1.88 ERA in 12 games.
The Border Cats also announced a pair of other Nicholls State signings on Thursday.
Pitcher Mike Hanchar, who was 1-1 with a 2.07 ERA for the Cats last season, is returning to the Lakehead. The 6-foot-5 southpaw is 0-1 with a 0.95 ERA as a transfer from Des Moines Area Community College. Catcher Christian Correa is batting just .167 in 24 appearances, with a double and seven RBI.
The Cats open the 2014 season at home on May 27 against the St. Cloud Rox.
