Assad ends slide at Canadian Mixed

Mike Assad is back on the winning track at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Sudbury. The Thunder Bay skip, who was sidelined the day before because of illness, scored a 9-6 win on Monday over Newfoundland's Gary Alcock.

The Thunder Bay skip, who was sidelined the day before because of illness, scored a 9-6 win on Monday over Newfoundland's Gary Alcock.

Assad's foursome, which also includes Jann Bobenic-Costante, Andrew Nerpin and Alissa Begin, scored three in the eighth and stole one in the ninth to secure the win.

The two teams traded deuces in the first and second, singles in the third and fourth and deuces again in five and six.
The Northern Ontario representatives improved to 3-2, good for a tie for sixth place in the standings.
