THUNDER BAY -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves have turned to a school alumni to take over the coaching reins of their women's volleyball team.

The program on Tuesday announced Craig Barclay will take over from the departed Chris Green.

A three-year assistant with the Thunderwolves who also spent time with the Superior North Volleyball Club, Barclay most recently coached the women's volleyball team at Trent University, where he spent the past four years.

"I am so excited to be joining Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves as head coach of the women's volleyball program. It brings me great joy to be returning to the program where I started my coaching career and the university from where I graduated," Barclay said in a release issued by the school's athletic department.

"This season will be about growth and change but the already established work ethic and culture will make for an easy transition. I can't wait to get on the court and start to work with the team as we move toward the beginning of our season and the goal to push for the playoffs.”

Athletic director Tom Warden called Barclay a perfect fit for the program.

" look forward to welcoming Craig to the Thunderwolves family. Craig is a nice fit here and we feel he's the right person to lead our volleyball program,” Warden said in the release.

“I'd like to thank the athletes and the assistant coaches in the volleyball program for their patience and assistance through this selection process”.
