It was a great day on the court for the Hammarskjold Vikings girls high school basketball program.
The junior girls squad extended its unbeaten run to 8-0 on Thursday, easily disposing of the Superior Collegiate Gryphons 62-22.
On the senior girls side the Vikes (6-2) kept pace with first place St. Ignatius, downing the Gryphons 42-11 on the strength of Gillian Lavoie’s 18-point performance.
St. Ignatius had an easy go of it against the St. Patrick Saints, riding Maggie Murphy’s 14-point effort to a 68-14 senior girls win.
In junior play it was a little closer, but the result was similar. Ivy Anderson had 12 points, enough to beat the Saints on her own, as the Falcons improved to 6-2 with a 29-10 win.
In senior boys volleyball, St. Ignatius beat Hammarskjold 2-1, Superior blanked Westgate 3-0 and Churchill took out Dennis Franklin Cromarty by the same 3-0 score.
On the junior boys court, St. Ignatius edged Hammarskjold 2-1 and Superior beat Westgate 2-1.
In golf, St. Ignatius’s Evan DeGrazia is tied for ninth after day one of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations provincial championship after shooting a two-over 74 in Belleville, Ont. It puts DeGrazia seven strokes off the lead.
