THUNDER BAY -- Four new players have been confirmed for the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team.

The first of the new recruits is Mozanga Ekwalanga, who last played for Red Deer College in Alberta.

Ekwalanga has consistently improved each season that she’s played, whether it be for Red Deer College or her previous experience with St. Mary’s University College in her hometown of Calgary. Ekwalanga, a five-foot-nine guard has a strong outside shooting touch as well as excellent rebounding instincts.

“It has been a goal of mine to play at the CIS level and I am very proud to say that I will be accomplishing my goal as a part of the Thunderwolves,” said Ekwalanga.

The team has also added Bridget O’Reilly, of Seaforth, Ontario.

O’Reilly has winning experience, evidenced by the D2 gold medal she won with the Ingersoll Explosion in 2012.

O’Reilly is a Five-foot-10 wing who has tremendous versatility, having the ability to score, pass and rebound effectively. O’Reilly also brings her versatility to the other end of the court by being able to defend multiple positions.

Rounding out the recruits are former teammates with the Barrie Royals, of the Junior Elite League, August Ricketts and Lindsay Edward. Both come from the York region and both look to bring a strong basketball IQ to the floor.

“She (Ricketts) is very humble, she wants to get better and is willing to work as hard as necessary to succeed on the court and in the classroom,” said John Kreiner, the head coach of the Thunderwolves.

“Lindsay’s work ethic is second to none. I am looking forward to coaching Lindsay as she is a player who will improve and make others better."
All four of the players are very excited to play for the Thunderwolves this season and help improve on their 12-10 record last season.
