The Border Cats pitching woes continued unabated on the road Wednesday night.

The Cats were torched for 14 runs by the hard-hitting Alexandria Blue Anchors,  and dropped their fourth straight Northwoods League contest by a 14-9 count.

Ryan Blanchard keyed the Alexandria comeback in a five-run fifth, blasting a three-run shot.

Dylan Becker, Jason Vosler and Joey Hawkins each homered for the Border Cats, who fell to 3-11 in second-half play.

Hawkins, who crept closer to the Mendoza line, drove in three for the Border Cats, who sent four pitchers to the mound in the loss.
Starter Jordan Church was chased in the fateful fifth, responsible for seven runs. But it was Derec Olson who was tagged with the loss, his first of the season, giving up two runs on three hits while only retiring a single batter.

Daniel Stoney gave up four more in the ninth to put the game out of reach.|

Reliever Taylor Simpson earned the victory for the Blue Anchors, evening his record at 2-2 with a perfect one-inning performance.

Alexandria, who boasts the worst ERA in the Northwoods League at 6.53, improved to 6-8.

The two teams will try it again on Thursday at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.
