Kyle Gunsinger would supply the only goal of the opening period as he converted on the power play 14 minutes in to give the Hawks the lead.

Brandon Wolframe would level the score early in the middle frame slamming home the equalizer past Hawks’ netminder Markus Leikkari during a man advantage opportunity.

Travis Muller and Jonathon Ouellet would then put the Stars up a pair as the duo notched tallies 23 seconds apart.

Nathan Spina, with his league-best 20th of the season and Justin Tougas would knot the proceedings once again later in the period only to see Wolframe bag his second of the night at 17:50 with the eventual game-winner.

Sean Moulton, Jordan Miller and Joe Szura would all chip in offensively dishing out two assists apiece in the Stars’ four-goal second stanza.

Neither side could muster any offense in the third as the Stars, 5-10-2, put the brakes on a four-game winless skid while handing the first place Hawks, 13-2-2, their second setback in three starts.

Shots on goal ended up 40-29 in favour of the Hawks.

The Stars will be right back on the ice Friday as they travel to Nipigon to meet the hometown Elks in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Nipigon Community Centre.
