OLIVER PAIPOONGE – The Kam River Fighting Walleye don’t lose on home ice too often – but it does happen.

The expansion Sioux Lookout Bombers on Friday night handed the host Fighting Walleye just their second loss of the season at the Norwest Arena, riding Jake Manners’ 47-save shutout performance to earn a 4-0 win.

Blake Burke scored a pair of first-period goals and Ty Bahm and captain Lucas Trimarchi added the first and last goals of the contest, the latter goal into the empty net with 38 seconds to go in regulation.

The win moved the Bombers into solo possession of third place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings with a 11-6-0 record. The top-ranked Kam River team fell to 16-5-1, but still has a seven-point cushion over Red Lake.

It was Kam River coach Geoff Walker’s debut behind the bench with the Fighting Walleye.

Fort Frances 4, Red Lake 3 (OT): Branden Hill scored the overtime winner 95 seconds into the extra frame, earning the last-place Lakers their second straight win – and just fourth of the season. Ryker Watt had a goal and two helpers for Fort Frances (4-14-0). Jacob Lamoureux had a goal and an assist for the host Miners.
