THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Border Cats have doubled their Canadian contingent.
The Northwoods League club inked Oakville, Ont. outfielder Jakob Newton for the upcoming season, one of four new players added to the team’s roster this week.
Newton is hitting .214 with one home run and three RBI as a sophomore at Florida Tech University. He was a .251 hitter in his rookie season.
The Cats also signed Karsten Vasquez, the son of team manager Eric Vasquez.
The younger Vasquez is a rookie at Sacramento City College, where he is hitting .500 in eight games, driving in three.
Pitchers Jermiah Priddy and Trent Valentine round out the latest signings.
Priddy, a 6-foot right-hander from Corona, Calif., is in his second season at the University of California-Riverside, taking the loss in his only start of the season, despite striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work.
Valentine, a New Jersey native, was 1-5 at Iona College in New York in 2018.
