THUNDER BAY - With a week to go before their season-opener next Tuesday, the Thunder Bay Border Cats lineup is rounding into shape.
The Cats on Monday announced the signing of six more players: two pitchers, a catcher, a pair of infielders and an outfielder.
St. John’s University supplied three of the latest Cats, right-hander Matt Hennie, catcher Tyler Sanchez and middle infielder Ty Blankmeyer.
Hennie, who pitches out of the bullpen for the Red Storm, is 2-0 with a save and a 3.07 ERA. Sanchez is hitting .254 with a homerun and 18 RBI, while Blankmeyer is hitting just .213 with five driven in.
The Border Cats turned to another New York school for their next two recruits, landing outfielder Robb Paller and second baseman Jordan Serena.
Paller, a Brooklyn native, has a .299 average with 10 doubles, three home runs and 33 RBI, while Serena is hitting at a .286 clip with nine doubles, two triples and has plated 12 runs.
Right-hander Mark Seyler joins the Cats from San Diego State University, where he’s struck out 75 in 89 innings, compiling an 8-5 record and 3.94 ERA.
The Border Cats open their season on May 27 against the St. Cloud Rox.
