The Thunder Bay Border Cats finally figured out how to win on the road.
And they did it in convincing fashion.
Cory Kay reached base five times and scored twice runs and Dylan Becker drove in three to help the Cats stomp the host Willmar Stingers 12-4 on Thursday, their first win in five attempts away from home.
Becker hit a three-run blast in the second inning, part of a five-run Border Cats attack.
Willmar struck back with three of their own off Thunder Bay starter Chris Kerwood, who did not allow another run before coming out after six innings of work.
Zach Thiac, Daniel Stoney and Kregg Snook each tossed an inning of relief for the Cats (5-4), who added seven in the seventh to push the game out of reach.
Tyler Hamer took the loss for the Stingers.
The Border Cats, who are two back of Duluth in second place in the Northwoods League’s North Division, visit Rochester on Friday.
