WATERLOO, Iowa – Braden Mosley scored on a bases-loaded, 13th-inning wild pitch and Jean-Francois Garon delivered two more runs on a bases-loaded single to lead the Thunder Bay Border Cats back into the win column.
The extra-inning heroics capped a remarkable comeback for the Cats, who trailed the host Waterloo Bucks 4-0 through four on Tuesday night at Riverfront Stadium.
Garon was 4-for-7 at the plate, while Mosley finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI, plating Garon with Thunder Bay’s third run of the sixth, pulling them to within a run of the Bucks.
He tied the game in the eighth, doubling off Waterloo reliever Brandon Downey, the hit scoring Brendan Dougherty, who reached base on an error.
Cody O’Brien (W, 1-0) tossed two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for the Cats (8-14).
Ryan Dunne, who took over to start the 12th, was roughed up for three runs on three hits and four walks and earned the loss, his first decision in five outings.
Aaron George started the contest for Thunder Bay, exiting after a tough three-inning stint that saw him give up three runs on two hits and three walks.
Brandon Fokkema settled in nicely in relief for Thunder Bay, allowing five hits and one run in six innings of work.
Waterloo (16-5) remained atop the Northwoods League’s North Division standings. The Cats are buried in ninth, 8.5 games back.
CAT TRACKS: Border Cats first baseman Noah Strohl went 0-for-4 and had his 12-game hitting streak stopped. The team record is 24, set by Dan Rizzie in 2015.
