ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A rough second inning created a hole too deep for the Thunder Bay Border Cats to claw their way out of on Friday.
Border Cats starter Charles Thielmann was knocked around early in his start, giving up five runs as the St. Cloud Rox rolled to a 7-1 win at Joe Faber Field.
Thielmann (1-1) was chased from the contest after the inning but not before giving up long balls to Rox hitters Bradley Strong and Kyle Thornell.
Meanwhile, his counterpart Reese Gregory tossed six innings of four-hit ball and only surrending one run, which was driven in on a single by Cory Kay.
The Border Cats (3-8) only generated five hits in the entire game.
Thunder Bay will take on the North Division leading Rox (8-3) again on Saturday.
