THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats went one for two against one of the top teams in their division on Friday.

The Border Cats fell 4-1 to the St. Cloud Rox in the first game of a Northwoods League doubleheader at Port Arthur Stadium before rebounding to record a 2-0 win.

The win is the third in four games for the Border Cats (6-12) and knocks St. Cloud (12-6) out of a share of the North Division lead.

The Rox jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Thunder Bay even touched their bats in the first game, getting to starting pitcher Charles Thielmann.

The Border Cats got one back in the bottom half courtesy a run-scoring single off the bat of Nick Studer.

Clay Ardeeser restored the two-run cushion in the third, taking Thielmann for a ride with solo jack out to right field.

Trailing by three in the bottom of the seventh loaded the bases with no outs but Nick Oberg, Jordan Serena and Cory Kay promptly struck out in order to neutralize the threat and end the game.

In the second match the Border Cats received a strong start from Gunner Kay, who went into the fifth inning without conceding a run and only allowing three hits and one walk to pick up his first win in Thunder Bay.

Kyle Hann provided all the offence in the game, hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Wes Helsabeck picked up the save.

Both games were seven innings in length, with the first game making up for a Thursday night rainout.
