THUNDER BAY – The Northwoods League schedule is out and the Thunder Bay Border Cats appear to have made the cut.
The troubled baseball team, in the midst of formalizing a local ownership group after the team’s previous owners stepped away, will open the 2019 campaign on May 28 at home against the Duluth Huskies for the start of a two-game set.
After two games on the road in Rochester, the team will return to Port Arthur Stadium for a six-game home-stand beginning on June 1.
TB Newswatch has learned the local ownership group is in discussions with lawyers to finalize the deal to keep the team, which began in 2003, operational. The team has also held multiple interviews seeking a new manager for next summer.
The 22-team circuit, which added the Kokomo Jackrabbits and Traverse City Baseball for 2019, has also reorganized its alignment, going from two to four divisions next season.
The Border Cats will play out of the five-team Great Plains East, featuring the Huskies, the Eau Claire Express, the La Crosse Loggers and the Waterloo Bucks.
