THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats will have a strong local representation to start the upcoming season.

THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats will have a strong local representation to start the upcoming season.

The club, which opens their Northwoods League slate next week, announced the signing of Thunder Bay pitchers Lucas Scocchia and Danny McInnis to temporary contracts.

Both right-handers are graduates of St. Ignatius High School and were members of the local Northwest Slam baseball program.

Scocchia, who underwent Tommy John surgery nearly two years ago, is a sophomore at Michigan’s Oakland University and will join the Border Cats during the second week of the regular season.

McInnis, who tossed a no-hitter during a showcase tournament in Iowa in 2012, completed his freshman season at Angelo State University in Texas.

The pitchers are the second and third local additions to the roster, joining Thunder Bay outfielder Carter McEachern, who signed earlier in the offseason. McEachern suited up for 10 games last season for the Border Cats.

Scocchia and McInnis are two of 10 pitcher signings the Border Cats announced earlier this week.

Thunder Bay opens the regular season at home on May 27 against the St. Cloud Rox.
