ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats started strong in their first road series of the season before falling back to earth.

Playing a doubleheader against the Alexandria Blue Anchors as a result of a Saturday rainout, the Border Cats prevailed 5-3 in the first game before falling 7-4 in the closer.

The opening game marked the first game Thunder Bay had not trailed during their first five games of the young Northwoods League regular season.

The Border Cats struck for two runs in each of the game's first two innings and starter Charles Thielmann tossed six strong innings, allowing only five hits and three runs en route to picking up his first victory of the campaign.

For the second straight series the Border Cats dropped a game to a previously winless opponent, as the Blue Anchors snapped a five-game losing skid with their first win of the year.

Alexandria led 5-0 after the first two innings providing more than enough of a cushion for starter Zach Muchenhirn, who went five innings to collect the win.

Thunder Bay is home for a two-game stand against the Rochester Honkers starting on Monday.
