Lakehead's Alastair Brown took home silver in the 1,000-metre race at the CIS national track and field championships, capping his season by being named a second-team all-Canadian.

Brown took the lead halfway through the race and strung the field out. He was passed on the last lap by the eventual winner but held on for 2nd place with a time of 2:27.06.

Brown also competed in the 1,500-metre event, finishing ninth in a time of 3:54.65.

LU coach Kip Sigsworth sees this as a great accomplishment, but also a step towards something greater in the future:

"Another great run for Alastair.  He took the lead when the pace slowed down and again ran with a lot of confidence.  He has made huge progress this year and to medal at the national meet is another step in the right direction."
