Former Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey coach mike Busniuk wasn’t out of the game for long.

The ex-NHLer, who spent more than a decade as an assistant coach in the American Hockey League, is heading overseas to continue his coaching career. The Thunder Bay native has been hired to coach Brunico, the Italian League team he played for after his two-season NHL stint with the Philadelphia Flyers ended in 1981.

Busniuk spent a couple of seasons with the Wolves as an assistant under Joel Scherban, then took over the reins last fall after Scherban was let go four games into the season. Busniuk lost out on the permanent coaching job at LU to long-time pro coach Bill McDonald.
