Jarid Scarafiotti doubled in the winning run and scored an insurance one in the top of the ninth, as the Willmar Stingers salvaged a split of their two-game set with the Thunder Bay Border Cats Friday night, taking the contest 6-4.
Ryan Lucero was tagged with the loss for the Cats, who had rallied to tie the score with a three-run eighth on a three-run homerun by catcher Matt Stevens.
Casey Selsor drove in the only other Border Cats run in the fifth, snapping the shutout runs of Willmar starter Tanner Banks.
Kurt Spooner, who came on in relief in the eighth, allowed a run on one hit, but it was enough to earn him his first victory of the Northwoods League season.
Anthony Bemboom led the way for Willmar (8-8) with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Sean Dwyer had three hits in four at bats.
The Cats (8-9) hit the road Saturday and Sunday for two games against last place St. Cloud (3-13).
