Cats name Judkins new manager

The Thunder Bay Border Cats are turning to a division rival to lead the team.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats are turning to a division rival to lead the team.

Officials with the Northwoods League franchise on Thursday announce Andy Judkins will take over the managerial reins of the team in 2012, after two years as an assistant with the Rochester Honkers.

Judkins replaces Mike Steed, who decided not to return to the Cats after two losing seasons at the helm.

"We would like to welcome Andy Judkins as the new field manager of the Border Cats," stated team owner and general manager Brad Jorgenson in a release issued by the team.

"His two years of experience in the NWL as an assistant coach with Rochester weighed heavily in our decision and he also came highly recommended by Mike Steed our former manager.”

Judkins is also an assistant coach at Central Arizona College, and is an NWL graduate, having spent the 2006 season with St. Cloud.
