The Thunder Bay Border Cats pitching situation isn’t getting any better.
On Monday the staff was torched for 18 hits and gave up nine walks en route to a 12-3 thrashing at the hands of the St. Cloud Rox.
Chris Paul had a perfect 5-for-5 night for the Rox, driving in three to drop the Border Cats to 1-4, four games behind the top-ranked Waterloo Bucks.
Starting pitcher Anthony Pastrana, brought in from Queens, N.Y. to shore up the staff, was rocked in just his second start of the season, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 1.2 innings of work.
Kyle Hann, who went 2-for-4 with his second homerun of the season, was the offensive star for the Cats. Tyler Duplantis and Tyler Stetson drove in the other Thunder Bay runs.
Steven Cazares is scheduled to make his Northwoods League debut on the mound for the Border Cats in Tuesday night’s rematch in St. Cloud.
He’ll look to end the Cats three-game slide.
The Border Cats return home Friday night to face St. Cloud, the final two games in a six-game home-and-away series.
