It was a rough day for Border Cats pitchers on Tuesday.
The host Mankato Moon Dogs exploded for 11 runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 17-10 win in a game neither staff particularly wants to remember.
Mankato sent 14 batters to the plate in the fateful fifth, chasing Thunder Bay starter Chris Kerwood after he gave up four hits, a walk and hit a batter, ultimately responsible for nine runs before hitting the showers.
Unfortunately his replacement, Cameron Wood, fared no better.
Wood was torched for eight runs and nine hits in three innings of work.
Looking at the positive, the Cats’ bats were fairly effective, especially in the eighth when Thunder Bay scored six times.
Jacob Rogers led the Cats at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs driven in, including a grand slam in the eighth.
Dylan Becker also homered for Thunder Bay, who enjoys a day off on Wednesday. The Cats take on Waterloo in a must-win contest Thursday night at Subway Field.
