Cats start final homestand with 4-1 win over Stingers

The Border cats lead their final three-game series against the Stingers 1-0 after taking the win Wednesday evening 4-1 at the Port Arthur Stadium.

Cats starter pitched a three-hitter throughout eight innings to get his first win of the season. Birr (1-3) took home a no decision in his previous 10 starts for the Cats, but only allowed a single earned run in Wednesday’s game. The  starter struck out eight and only gave up one walk.

Casey Selsor went 2-3 with a double and drove in the Cats first run with a first inning single. Meanwhile, infielder Cullen Mahoney went 2-4 at the plate and scored a run to help his team’s cause.

Alex Guthrie and outfielder Ino Patron, who has become a fan favourite this season, both produced back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the third to give the Cats a 4-0 lead.

The Cats will face the Stingers again for Game 2 of the three game series at Port Arthur Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
