The Thunder Bay Chill need one point in their final two games to clinch the Central Conference regular-season championship.
The Premier Development League team split a weekend set against the now-eliminated Real Colorado Foxes to open up an eight-point lead over the second place Rochester Thunder in the Heartland Division. The Thunder gained three of them back on Sunday, blanking the last place Kansas City Brass 2-0.
The Thunder (9-2-3) and Chill (11-1-2) wrap up PDL play next weekend with a pair of games at Chapples Field in Thunder Bay.
The Chill are six points up on both the Michigan Bucks (9-3-2) and Forest City London (8-1-5), tied atop the Great Lakes Division. Both teams have two games left to play. The top two teams in each division advance to a four-team conference playoff. The winner of that tournament advances to the national semifinal.
Chill coach Tony Colistro confirmed his team will be bidding for the right to host the Central Conference championship, and said the league tends to favour the team with the best record, though there are no guarantees.
