Chill shocked on the road

WINNIPEG -- Try as they might, a three-goal deficit was too much for the Thunder Bay Chill to dig their way out of.

WINNIPEG -- Try as they might, a three-goal deficit was too much for the Thunder Bay Chill to dig their way out of.

Moses Dante struck twice in the first half and WSA Winnipeg pulled off the biggest upset thus far in the young Premier Development League regular season, scoring a 3-2 win over the Chill at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Making his debut in between the woodwork, keeper Mitchell Thorn found himself in trouble early and often.

After Winnipeg opened the scoring, Dante beet the keeper as a result of a flawed back pass.

Winnipeg cemented the lead with a goal in the opening minute of the second half.

That goal would be crucial as the Chill woke up, attempting to salvage at least a point.

Captain Nolan Intermoia broke the goose egg in the 48th minute, scoring on a penalty kick.

After the home side was down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes, Zetroy Robertson brought Thunder Bay to within one with a marker in extra time but that was as close as the Chill would get.

The reigning Heartland Division and Central Conference champs drop to 1-1-0 after their first weekend. They welcome the St. Louis Lions and Springfield Demize to Thunder Bay next weekend.
