The Thunder Bay Border Cats rallied in the ninth Friday night, but came up a run short.

Tyler Duplantis hit a two-run, two-out double to pull the Cats to within a run of the visiting St. Cloud Rox, but with two on Kyle Hann flew out to centre-field, ending the threat and the ballgame, a 4-3 Cats loss.

All-star catcher Adam Martin had a pair of RBI for the Rox, who tied the game 1-1 in the fourth and took the lead for good in the sixth. Martin is third in the Northwoods League with 37 driven in and leads the circuit with 10 homeruns and 58 hits.

Jason Vosler had three hits for the Cats, who lost their second straight contest and at 2-7, are now seven games back of first place Waterloo, winners of 12 straight.

Chris Kerwood gave up 11 hits and four runs in six innings and was saddled with the loss.

Steven Pastrana was solid in relief, throwing three innings of one-hit ball to allow the Cats a chance to claw back.

Prior to the game the Border Cats learned reliever Zach Thiac is the only player on the team heading to the NWL all-star game next week. Thiac is 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA.

The Cats and Rox wrap up their six-game home-and-away series Saturday night at Subway Field.
