Construction will not stop Miles with the Giant marathon

More than 700 people are set to run in the annual Miles with the Giant marathon this Sunday morning.

Downtown Port Arthur will packed as participants gather to the start line before the 8 a.m. race.

Miles with the Giant president Barry Streib says they have moved the original starting point because of construction on Red River Road and Cumberland Street.

“Our intersection this year will be Red River (Road) and St. Paul (Street),” Streib said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “That intersection will be taken care of by the City of Thunder Bay by the time the marathon starts on Sunday.

“It may not be paved over, but it certainly will be packed down so the runners won’t have a problem.”

Streib added that he is working closely with the organizers of the Terry Fox run, which will also take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Boulevard Lake.
