Dahl blanks Pickering, McCarville tied for second at Scotties

It's probably going to get more difficult for Marlo Dahl, but a win's a win at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

It's probably going to get more difficult for Marlo Dahl, but a win's a win at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Dahl scored a pair in the second end, then she and opposition skip Laura Pickering blanked the next four ends, neither side wanting to give an inch.

The Thunder Bay skip, however, stopped playing along in the seventh, stealing to double her lead to 4-0. An end later and a steal of three by Dahl (2-3) and the match was over, a rare 7-0 shutout at women's curling's elite Ontario event.

Across the ice fellow Lakehead product Krista McCarville didn't need long to complete her fourth straight triumph, in search of a fifth Ontario title.

McCarville took an early 2-0 lead after two ends, then gave up three to Brown, who held the hammer. McCarville grabbed the triple right back, then stole three more in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead into the break.

Rivitalized, McCarville and teammates Ashley Miharija, Sarah Lang and Liz Kingston grabbed another steal of two in the sixth, ending the match with the scoreboard reading 10-3 in her favour.

After five draws, McCarville is tied for second with Cathy Auld at 4-1. Both trail defending champion Rachel Homan, who handed the Thunder Bay team its only loss. Homan whipped Tracey Horgan 9-3 in eight ends to improve to 5-0.

In other Draw 5 action it was Sherry Middaugh rallying to beat Alison Nimik 7-3 and Auld over former champion Jen Hanna.
McCarville takes on Horgan and Middaugh on Thursday, while Dahl, tied for sixth, plays Brown and Horgan.
