Dahl rocks McCarville to start provincial Scotties

For the first time in two years, Krista McCarville has gone down to defeat at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
For the first time in two years, Krista McCarville has gone down to defeat at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The Thunder Bay curler, who ran the table a year ago, going 11-0 en route to the provincial women’s curling title, was blasted 9-2 by Marlo Dahl’s Port Arthur Curling Club foursome, a match that mercifully ended after the sixth end, when Dahl scored three with the hammer to stretch her lead to seven.

Dahl, whose team includes lead Carly Ray, second Julie Ruoho and third Shana Ketonen, took a 3-1 lead in the third, and stole three more in the fourth to take complete control of the match.

Thunder Bay skip Ashley Kallos, who like McCarville curls out of the Fort William Curling Club, had a similar 2011 Scotties debut at the Thornhill Golf and Country Club, falling 11-3 to former two time champion Alison Goring of Bayview.

In the only other completed match on Monday night's opening draw, Ottawa’s Rachel Horman thumped Highland Country Club skip Marika Bakewell 11-3.
