Lindsay Druery is heading overseas.

Lakehead University's former three-time OUA all-star pivot will continue her basketball career in Europe, where she’ll join former Thunderwolves forward Kathryn Verboom in the German 2. Bundesliga with TSC Towers Speyer/Schifferstadt.

The Smithville, Ont. native was one Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s leading rebounders with Lakehead in 2011-12, her fifth and final season.

She averaged 13.9 points a game and 9.1 boards, while shooting 46 per cent from the floor with the Thunderwolves.

"I'm truly excited about the opportunity that I have been given to continue playing basketball. I never thought I would ever play university basketball, let alone play professionally,” the 24-year-old Druery said in a release issued Thursday.

“I am thrilled to be joining the TSV Towers in September and able to play with Kathryn once again. I'm very excited to head to Germany in September and be a part of the TSV Towers' organization. They have been great, making the basketball transition easy as well as providing me with a chance to continue coaching and teaching. This was an easy decision for me and I couldn't be happier."

Jon Kreiner, who coached Druery throughout her university stay, said he expects his star pupil will excel on the German court.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Lindsay. She'll receive practical teaching experience which will help her when she is done playing and looking for a teaching job back in Canada. Lindsay loves being around young kids in a coaching environment so the Towers will be getting a great coach in their club system,” Kreiner said in the same release.

“As for basketball, the chance to play-for-pay in the tough world economy isn't as frequent as it once was so I am very proud of Lindsay. I also think that being reunited with Kathryn Verboom is a unique situation, and one that will benefit both players.”

Last season in Germany Verboom averaged 15.9 points per game, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting over 50% from the floor and over 70 per cent from the foul line.
