Eagles rally to tie Stars

The Screaming Eagles rallied with two late third period goals to salvage a 4-4 tie with the Jr. B Stars Thursday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League play at the Tournament Centre.

Ryan Witherspoon notched the only marker of the opening period as the Eagles’ forward struck shorthanded at 11:03.

Joe Szura answered back for the Stars early in the middle stanza converting on the power play at 1:22.

Chris Bourdons’ 12th of the season a minute later gave the Stars the lead only to see Charlie Debungee fire the equalizer past Tyler Bolen 58 seconds after that.

Lino Dixon’s first of the campaign, during a Stars’ man advantage, made it a 3-2 contest following 40 minutes.

 A quick third period tally by Patrick Mielke put the Stars up a pair only to see Travis Tom slide home his eighth with 8:11 remaining to make it a one-goal game while Luke Roy supplied the equalizer at 14:53.

Shots on goal favoured the Eagles’ 44-41 with Bolen making 40 stops and Brandon Martin turning aside 37 pucks that he faced on the night.  

League action continues Tuesday as the Stars tangle with the Northern Hawks at the Tournament Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
