Elks make easy work of Falcons

The Nipigon Elks scored the game’s first six goals and never looked back as they slammed the Schreiber Falcons 15-2 Friday in Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League play at Nipigon Arena.

Steven St. Jean and Eric Rubach would give the home side the lead with the only two tallies in the opening period.

They would extend their cushion to 7-1 after 40 minutes on another by St. Jean along with singles by Landon Clearwater, Cole Saunders, Mitch Kerr and Mark Dawd while Mike Fummerton replied for the Falcons.

Nipigon would then explode for eight more efforts in the final frame to blow the contest open.

Included in the offensive outburst were the completion of hat-tricks by St. Jean and Clearwater with Saunders and Kerr adding their second markers of the contest. Johannes Lahtinen and Jess Assunmaa also found the back of the net for the Elks. Jean-Luc Moses would add the second Schreiber goal.

Nipigon outshot the Falcons 51-29 in the affair with Mitchell Barr picking up the win.

Chase Hamilton and Devon Pento both saw time in the Schreiber net in defeat.

The same two sides will meet again Saturday evening in the Falcons home opener at Schreiber Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
