A late Nipigon Elks three-goal outburst  just 3:16 apart let them rally for a 5-4 victory over the Jr. B Stars Thursday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

Nipigon would jump out a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers from Jessie Assunmaa and Eric Rubach.

The second stanza was all Stars however as they struck four times with tallies coming off the sticks of Chris Bourdons, Dezi Legallais, Noah Cain and Jared Wick to put them up a pair after 40 minutes.

Steven St. Jean would commence the comeback for the Elks as he notched his fifth of the season with nine minutes remaining.

George Ossachuk’s fourth of the campaign 1:50 later tied the game then Zach Nuttall fired the game-winner, on the power play, with 5:46 remaining.

Shots on goal favoured Nipigon by a 31-30 count with Ryan Williams registering the victory and Tyler Bolen suffering the loss.

The next league contest will feature the second place Elks (5-3-3) once again as they return to the Tournament Centre Tuesday to take on the league-leading Northern Hawks (7-0-1) at 8 p.m.
