Elks trio collect 13 points in beating Screaming Eagles

The Nipigon Elks trio of Mitch Kerr, George Ossachuk and Davis Smith combined for 13 points to help lead their side to an 8-3 victory over the Screaming Eagles Sunday in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at Delaney Arena.

Smith would notch two markers of the opening period to send the Elks on their way.

They would then tack on four more tallies in the middle frame courtesy of Ossachuk, Brandon Polhill, Matthew Mickleburgh and Brodie Biasiol. Kevin Mamakwa would reply, on the power play, for the Eagles making it a 6-1 game after 40 minutes.

The two sides would exchange two goals apiece in the third to complete the night’s scoring with Mickelburgh and Kerr doing the damage for the Elks while Ryan Windigo and Luke Roy countered for the Eagles.

Ossachuk ended the evening with five points as Smith and Smith chipped in with four apiece.

Shots on goal favoured Nipigon on the night by a 44-33 margin with Thomas Gratz picking up the win and Brandon Martin suffering the setback.

Next up on the Jr. B docket sees the Jr. Stars tangling with the Northern Hawks Tuesday evening at the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
