Falcons edge into basketball final

It’s off to the senior girls basketball final for the St. Ignatius Falcons. The Falcons on Tuesday won the Page Playoff 1-2 quarterfinal, the 32-26 squeaker over Sir Winston Churchill earning them a direct bye into the championship game.

Karissa Kajorinne had 16 for St. Ignatius, who improved to 15-1. They will take on the winner of the semifinal match between Churchill and Hammarskjold, who advanced Tuesday with a 41-30 win over Westgate.

In the junior girls semifinal, Caitlin Tarabocchia and Myranda Bloesser netted 11 points apiece to lead Superior Collegiate past Churchill 39-32 and into the semifinals, where they will play Hammarskjold. In the other quarterfinal, Sidney Isbell had a team-high eight points as Westgate advanced to a semifinal date with St. Ignatius, beating St. Patrick 37-24.

In senior boys volleyball, No. 1-ranked Churchill made easy work of St. Patrick in the Page Playoff 1-2 game, knocking off the Fighting Saints in straight sets. The unbeaten Trojans will await the semifinal winner between St. Patrick and Hammarskjold, who swept St. Ignatius 3-0 in the other quarterfinal.

On the junior boys court, Churchill and La Verendrye each advanced to the semifinal round, knocking off St. Patrick and Westgate respectively.
