The three-time defending champion St. Ignatius Falcons were at it again on Thursday, kicking off the 2014 junior boy’s football season with an easy win.
Alex Gingras rushed for a pair of touchdown scores apiece as the Falcons trampled the St. Patrick Fighting Saints 33-0.
Gingras finished with a game-high 92 yards on the ground for St. Ignatius, who opened up a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to the victory.
Quarterback Jordan Maki was also solid in the Falcons limited passing game, connecting with Jake Robertson late in the first for a 52-yard TD strike.
Zach Tillbury had a one-yard score to wrap up scoring in the fourth.
Leo Pernia hit a pair of field goals and three conversions.
Eric Nisioiu led the Saints with 31 rushing yards. St. Patrick had zero yards gained through the air.
Hammarskjold 31, Sir Winston Churchill 0: Hunter Campbell had a monster game running the football, dashing for 174 yards and three scores to lead the Vikings to the lopsided victory. Campbell scored from 74, 59 and 10 yards out. Shayan Munawar added a 43-yard touchdown run. Brad Riley rushed nine times for 25 yards to lead the Trojans offense.
Westgate 42, Superior Collegiate 0: Levi Siau ran for three touchdowns, including a 42-yard scamper in the second quarter as the Tigers opened the season with a win. Hunter MacKenzie had a 16-yard touchdown run, while Caleb Perzan topped 100 yards rushing and scored on a three-yard dash. Bryce Muratagic scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone to round out the Tigers attack. The overmatched Gryphons were held to -40 yards of total offense.
