Falcons take Game 1 of NWOSSAA final

The St. Ignatius Falcons are a win away from a return trip to the senior girls high school basketball provincial championship.

The St. Ignatius Falcons are a win away from a return trip to the senior girls high school basketball provincial championship.

The Falcons took their latest step in that direction on Friday, traveling to Dryden where they downed Dryden High School 52-17 to take Game 1 of their best-of-three Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association regional final.

Karissa Kajorinne and Cassandra Soulias had a dozen points each for St. Ignatiu. Emilie Gardam led Dryden with eight points.
Game 2 is Saturday morning at 9:30 p.m. CST.

The news wasn't so good for the local side on the senior boys volleyball court, where the once undefeated Churchill Trojans were swept aside by Dryden, who beat them twice on Friday in straight sets.

Dryden took the opener 3-0, winning 25-13, 25-22 and 25-14. It was more of the same in the second game, with Dryden winning 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13. Dryden advances to provincials.
