The St. Ignatius Falcons are the Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association track and field champions.

The Falcons earned 530 points at the three-day event, edging defending champion St. Patrick, who picked up 468 in a second-place effort.

Hammarskjold finished a distant third with 320 points, with Churchill winding up fourth, just eight points back.

Among the Friday highlights for the victorious Falcons were Karlie Long’s winning performance in the midget girls discus competition; teammate Katelyn Andrea won the junior girls event, and also took the junior girls javenlin toss and shot put events.

Falcons Ivy Anderson and  Rachel Romu took the midget and senior girls high jump events, respectively, while Justin Stovel captured the midget boys crown, leaping 1.54 metres.
Romu was tops in the long jump competition, landing a leap of 4.55 metres, while Anderson grabbed the triple jump crown with a 9.54-metre effort.

On the track, Brownyn Bolduc and Caitlin Smith won the 100-metre races in the midget and junior girls category, while Erika Gibson of St. Patrick High School took the senior girls title.
Fellow Saint Jake McKee won the midget boys title in 12.1 seconds, while Superior’s Jon Nillipovitz needed 12.3 seconds to capture gold in the junior boys category and Ryan Scott of Westgate won the senior side in 11.0 seconds.

Bolduc also won the midget girls 200-metre race, as did McKee on the boys side.
Smith found herself back atop the podium in the 400-metre race, while the Falcons Megan Yuan took both the senior girls 1,500- and 3,000-metre races.

It was all St. Ignatius in the 100-metre relay category, as the team swept all three age levels on the girls side, and for good measure were crowned champs in the 4x400-metre relay.
