Flyers keep Stars winless

The elusive first win of the season still escapes the Thunder Bay North Stars.

The elusive first win of the season still escapes the Thunder Bay North Stars.

After Brandon Wolframe gave the North Stars a 1-0 lead four minutes into Wednesday’s Fort William Gardens contest, the Sioux Lookout Flyers scored five straight, then withstood a third period comeback effort to skate away with a 5-3 win.

Bryan Borders notched a pair for the Flyers, who left the first up 3-1. Jacob Brown, Anthony Wolfe and Chris Hoffman also scored for the visitors.

Wolframe added a second goal with six minutes to go in the final stanza, and assisted on Brennen Dubchak’s final effort, which came at 19:20 of the third and goalie Carter McEachern on the bench.

The Stars (0-4-1) have just one point in five outings, good for sixth place in the seven-team Superior International Junior Hockey League. Sioux Lookout improved to 4-2-0, tied for second with idle Fort Frances.
