THUNDER BAY -- Former Thunder Bay Border Cats catcher Christian Correa has inked a deal with the Houston Astros.

The Nicolls State University prospect had 22 RBI and scored nine times this past season, throwing out 18 would-be base stealers.
“It’s amazing,” Correa said in a release issued on Monday by his school.

“It’s everything I worked for. I just want to thank everyone who has been there through everything in my baseball career.”

Coach Set Thibodeaux said Correa is as good a defensive catcher as can be found in baseball.

“He will be a good one for a while, I think,” Thibodeaux said.

“I am very proud of him and know he will make the most of his opportunity. He’s another senior that had two great years with us, got his degree and will be a professional baseball player.

Correa hit .303 in 49 games last season with the Border Cats, hitting 12 doubles and four homeruns while driving in 29.
