Former Wolves goalie Whitley traded

Former Thunderwolves goalie Chris Whitley is on the move.

The Oshawa native, who spent the last two seasons toiling with the Central Hockey League’s Allen Americans, earlier this week was traded to the Wichita Thunder in a 3-for-1 deal that saw defencemen Kory Scorin and Steve Kaunisto and forward Troy Shwab head the other direction.

Allen coach and GM Dwight Mullins said it was tough to let Whitley go, but it was too good an offer to pass up.

“Chris has played a big part in our organization form the start. He was a huge piece of our team that first year, getting us to the finals,” Mullins said.

“This move also stems from indications we are getting a top affiliate goalie prospect. Our organization has always placed a high priority on development and opportunity to advance, and when you have affiliation and you are being assigned players, you have to make room for these types of moves.”

Whitley, 28, was 24-10-2 for the Americans in 2010-11, posting a 2.86 goals against average and one shutout. He played between the pipes for Lakehead from 2004 to 2009.
