Venzal Russell had a chance to send the game to overtime, but a buzzer-beating three-pointed bounced off the rim, leaving the Lakehead Thunderwolves to settle for a weekend split against the host Laurier Golden Hawks.

The No. 7 Hawks scored the 92-89 win thanks to a 19-point effort by Kale Harrison, with a little help from teammate Conor Meschino, who finished with 16, the bulk of which came in the third quarter as Laurier mounted a run.

Six players hit double figures for the Wolves (10-2), who returned to a first-place tie with Laurie with the loss. Ryan Thomson led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while an injured Greg Carter notched a dozen points, six assists and three steals.

"Give credit to Laurier," LU coach Scott Morrison said in a release. "I thought our defense was actually better tonight but guys like Coulthard and Buckley hit timely shots late in the shot clock with hands in their faces.

"I was disappointed with our turnovers and poor finishing in the fourth quarter. Better execution might have gotten us over the hump. No time to reflect on this weekend with a tough opponent like McMaster coming to the Thunderdome next weekend."
