Gryphons remain undefeated on hard court

The Superior Collegiate Gryphons remained undefeated in senior high school boys basketball play on Thursday, crushing the Churchill Trojans 48-23 to move to 5-0. Alex Robichaud netted 18 for the winners, while Matt Paavilainen scored 15.

Alex Robichaud netted 18 for the winners, while Matt Paavilainen scored 15. Hunter Janssens led the Trojans with just six points.

Elsewhere Keon Doblej had 19 points as the Westgate Tigers eked past the Hammarsjrkold Vikings 51-47. Nick Potter scored 18 for Hammarskjold.

St. Ignatius evened its record at 3-3 with a healthy 59-25 win over winless St. Patrick, who got eight from Kofi Agbo.

In junior play, Sayd Mohammed had 16 points to lead Churchill to a 64-24 drubbing of Superior Collegiate. Justin Reid had seven in a losing cause.

Eric Mantyla had 14 to pace Westgate to a 44-26 triumph over Hammarskjold, while across town Eric Mann had 16 to lead St. Patrick to a 71-52 win over St. Ignatius.

In boys curing it was Superior (Black) 10, La Verendrye 2, Hammarskjold 5, Westgate 3 and in girls curling it was Superior 6, La Verendrye 1 and Westgate 4, Hammaskjold 1.

On the senior girls volleyball court, St. Patrick edged Churchill 2-1, while Superior swept Hammarskjold, La Verendrye blanked Dennis Franklin Cromarty and St. Ignatius made easy work of Westgate, all three schools winning by 3-0 scores.

In junior girls action, it was St. Patrick over Churchill 2-1, Hammarskjold over Superior (Blue) 3-0, Superior (Black) beat La Verendrye 3-0 and St. Ignatius over Westgate 3-0.
