Hawks double up Eagles

Nathan Spina, with his league-leading 17th of the season, along with Will Moore’s power play effort put the first place Hawks up a pair after one period of play.

After Travis Tom got the Eagles on the board early in the middle frame Zac Sentence would strike twice to put the Hawks up 4-1.

Jarred Sugarhead would cut the deficit before the stanza was out making it a two-goal contest after 40 minutes.

Charlie Debungey’s shorthanded goal 6:16 into the third period brought the Hawks to within one, but Kyle MacLeod and Sean Cunninghame would answer back for the Hawks to round out the scoring.

Markus Leikkari made 21 stops to pick-up the win for the Hawks who pumped 56 shots on Curtis Barker in the Eagles’ net.

League play resumes Tuesday when the Jr. B Stars host the Nipigon Elks at the Tournament Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
