The Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League saw a pair of games on the slate Saturday with the Northern Hawks and Nipigon Elks picking up home ice victories.

At the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre, the Hawks got a goal and three assists from Nathan Spina to lead them past the Schreiber Falcons 6-2 while Mark Dawd notched a hat-trick to pace the Elks to a 6-4 triumph over the visiting Northern Renegades.

In the Lakehead, Dustin Taylor staked Schreiber to the early lead with the lone goal of the opening stanza.

The Hawks would respond in the middle frame with tallies from Dallas Allaire, Justin Veltri and Jeremy Yocum to go on top heading in the third period.

A Kevin St. Charles power play effort trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at 5:20 only to see Josh Elvish strike twice in quick succession to take control of the contest.

Spina would then ice it with a late goal to round out the scoring.

Shots on goal favoured the Hawks by a 50-21 margin with Markus Leikkari picking up the win and Chase Hamilton suffering the loss.

The victory was the eighth in a row for the first place Hawks who improved to 18-1 on the campaign. The Falcons fell to 4-13-1 with the setback.

Meanwhile at the Nipigon Arena Dawd notched goals in each period to lift the Elks to the win as their record jumped to 15-4 overall.

Steve St. Jean chipped in with a pair of markers for the home side while Mitch Kerr added a single. St. Jean also dished out two assists for a four-point night.

Blake Moore, Russell Balla, Zane Zerbinati and Mike McDonald scored the goals for the Renegades who remain winless on the season at 0-14-1.
