Hawks finish on losing note

It was a tough finish for the Northern Hawks at the Keystone Cup Western Canadian Jr. B Championship in Sherwood Park, Alta., as they were blasted 11-0 by the Blackfalds Wranglers Saturday evening in their final game of the event.

Wyatt Fraser led the Wranglers offensively by scoring once and setting up three others for a four-point night.

Kyle Maas and Bryce Veuger both tallied twice and added one assist apiece aiding the offensive cause while Jared Lenz notched two goals of his own.

Jason Bell, Greg Gross, Dalen Kolybaba and Jared Ramstead all added single markers for the Alberta Jr. B champions.

Tanner Schalin turned aside all 23 attempts he faced in posting the shutout for the Wranglers who peppered Jordan George with 59 shots in the Thunder Bay net.

The Hawks finished up tied for fifth with an 0-4-1 record at the six-team tournament as their season came to a disappointing end.

It will be an all-Alberta final Sunday as Blackfalds (4-1) take on the host Sherwood Park Knights (4-0-1) in the gold medal game at 3 p.m.

Prior to that, the Peninsula Panthers (3-2) of B.C. will meet the Pilot Butte Storm (2-2-1) from Saskatchewan in the bronze medal match contest at noon.
